Taylor Swift is known for having a squad of friends to support her, and when it came to having to testify against the man who allegedly groped her, she leaned on someone who had been through the trial process before: Kesha.

“Once it hit the news that I was in Denver dealing with this, there was an outpouring of support on social media and I have never appreciated it more. I spoke to Kesha on the phone and it really helped to talk to someone who had been through the demoralizing court process,” Swift told Time.

The “Gorgeous” singer was part of a group of people named Time’s Person of the Year, dubbed The Silence Breakers. Swift, as well as actresses Rose McGowan, Ashley Judd, activist Tarana Burke and many others who have publicly accused men in power of assaulting women are included.

In Swift’s Q&A with the magazine, she discusses her case against David Mueller, a Colorado DJ who Swift says reached under her skirt and grabbed her butt during a 2013 photo op. She reported the incident to his employer, and Mueller was fired. He sued Swift for defamation, but Swift countersued and won.

Kesha’s lawsuits haven’t been as successful. In 2014, the “Praying” singer filed a lawsuit against music producer Lukasz “Dr. Luke” Gottwald that accused him of sexual battery and assault as well as emotional and psychological abuse. She also requested to be released from her record contract. Dr. Luke denied all of her claims and countersued for defamation. The legal battle is still ongoing.

In February 2016, Swift donated $250,000 to Kesha to help with legal fees, and in August, Kesha tweeted her support for Swift during her groping trial. “@taylorswift13 i support you always, and especially right now and admire your strength and fearlessness,” the singer wrote on Twitter. “Truth is always the answer.”

Kesha revealed that she had been speaking to the pop star on the phone in October and had only positive things to say about her. “[Swift is] very, very sweet, very, very genuine, extremely generous, picks up the phone every time I call her. My mom doesn’t even always pick up the phone!” Kesha told Rolling Stone.
