KEY POINTS

  • Newcastle is ready to offer big money to Jesse Lingard to entice other top talents
  • The club appears to be prepared to bite the bullet with pundits questioning the planned investment in Lingard
  • Lingard is imminently headed out of Manchester United either in January or the next transfer window

Newcastle United has funds to spend this coming January, and part of the budget will be used on a Manchester United winger.

Jesse Lingard has failed to seal a new deal with the Red Devils with talks reportedly bogging down.

Fully aware of this development, the Magpies are allegedly ready to enter the mix and dangle a hefty £200,000 ($264,000)-a-week contract for the 28-year-old footballer.

The planned move was revealed by Ian McGarry when he appeared on The Transfer Window podcast.

There is the growing belief that the English midfielder is on his way out of Old Trafford, and an exit could happen as early as the January transfer window--with Newcastle United expected to aggressively pursue several top stars to revamp their roster.

But the next question tied to that is the level of interest that Lingard would have joining the Magpies.

Should they succeed in getting Lingard, such could result in a domino effect with the team having marquee names in the list.

Hence, this could also justify why the Magpies are willing to spend loftily on Lingard to somehow change the mindset of other prospects.

It is a risk that Newcastle United would be willing to take although his performance would be another concern.

It is also worth noting that Lingard is coming off an injury. He was left off by Ralf Rangnick in his first game serving as an interim manager against Crystal Palace.
