UFC 226 Betting Odds: Stipe Miocic Favored Over Daniel Cormier, Francis Ngannou Expected To Win

The only official loss of Daniel Cormier’s professional MMA career came at the hands Jon Jones, perhaps the best fighter the sport has ever seen. When the UFC light heavyweight champion steps inside the octagon Saturday night in Las Vegas, the betting odds won’t be in his favor in another rare occasion.

Cormier is the underdog in the main event of UFC 226 as he takes on Stipe Miocic for his heavyweight championship. Usually fighting at a 205-pound limit, Cormier came in at more than 40 pounds heavier during the weigh-in before looking to win a second belt.

With a 20-1 record, Cormier’s had a more decorated career than almost anyone fighting today. But he faces one of his most difficult challenges as he moves up a weight class to take on a dominant champion.

It isn’t just that Miocic has won three straight title defenses since becoming the UFC heavyweight champion. The 35-year-old registered four consecutive first-round knockouts before beating Francis Ngannou by unanimous decision at UFC 220 in January. Ngannou was actually the favorite in that fight, but he lost for the first time in the UFC to the baddest man on the planet.

Ngannou is expected to bounce back Saturday with a victory. His fight against Derrick Lewis has been promoted to the co-main event. The UFC featherweight championship fight between Max Holloway and Brian Ortega was pulled from the card Wednesday.
