A super fight between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Georges St-Pierre is reportedly in the works for the near future.

Nurmagomedov most recently defended his lightweight title against Conor McGregor at UFC 229 earlier this month, but is currently suspended indefinitely for inciting the infamous post-fight brawl that took place.

With a resolution likely to take place before the end of the year, it looks like Nurmagomedov could be set for a dream fight with his fighting idol in St-Pierre afterward, according to MMA Team Dagestan. It would likely take place at a catchweight 165 pounds.

The news may also be connected with Nurmagomedov's manager Ali Abdelaziz's recent cryptic tweet hinting at huge news involving his client.

While it is just a report, MMA Team Dagestan were notably the ones who initially reported Nurmagomedov would face McGregor at UFC 229 all the way back in June.

Leading up to UFC 229, St-Pierre expressed a desire to face the winner of the main event, as he was only interested in fights that further his legacy.

The former welterweight king is already regarded by many as the greatest fighter of all time and last year, became just the fourth fighter to become a two-division champion in the UFC after winning the middleweight title from Michael Bisping.

He would later vacate the title after a case of ulcerative colitis but, last month, said his recovery was going well and did not close the door on potentially facing the winner of UFC 229's main event.

“I can’t say yet, yes or no [to fighting the UFC 229 main event winner]. One thing I know is the UFC will never want me to go to 155,” St-Pierre said with a laugh. "They will be scared that I will ride off into the sunset with their belt again. And I understand them. I understand them from a business standpoint."

As for Nurmagomedov, St-Pierre is his idol and earlier this year, signaled his intentions of facing the French-Canadian.

“I think about Georges St-Pierre,” the 30-year-old said in April. “For his legacy and my legacy, it’s very important [for us to fight]. [Our] win streaks, champion versus former champion. He is the greatest athlete who competed in UFC, in my opinion.”

“If I beat Conor, or I beat Georges – which one is better for my legacy? We don’t talk about money, we talk about legacy. Of course Georges. If UFC will give me choice – I will bring Georges.”

Meanwhile, new UFC signing Ben Askren wants to face the winner if a Nurmagomedov vs. St-Pierre fight were to happen.

Askren was recently involved in the first-ever MMA trade that saw former flyweight king Demetrious Johnson go to Singapore-based ONE Championship. He has since called out a number of welterweight fighters as well as Nurmagomedov and St-Pierre.

However, he seems to be okay with fighting a top five fighter first with former title challenger Darren Till currently on his radar.
