  • Sony did not participate in this year's E3 all-virtual conference
  • PlayStation is rumored to hold its own event
  • The said PlayStation event would feature new "FFXVI" and "God of War" trailers

This year's E3 has no PlayStation conference, no State of Play, or other streaming events for the Japanese gaming giant, but if the latest rumor is anything to go by, Playstation would have its own event and its announcement could happen soon.

Sony is apparently preparing for its own PlayStation Summer showcase, which might be announced in the coming weeks. This information came from reliable industry insider Navtra, who shared the details on ReserEra forums recently.

"Assuming nothing changed: just wait a couple more week[s]," the insider said in a PlayStation thread discussing a possible Sony presentation.

The insider did not offer any specific date for the rumored PlayStation Summer event but mentioned that fans would see a new "Final Fantasy XVI" gameplay at the said event. A new PlayStation event this summer makes sense since the Japanese gaming giant has a lot of exclusive PlayStation titles on the pipeline.

This includes, "Horizon Forbidden West," "God of War: Ragnarok," "Forspoken" and "Grand Turismo 7." The announcement of "Death Stranding: Director's Cut" a few days ago came with the promise of more details in a few weeks, which could also hint at the game's presence at the rumored PlayStation event. Adding more fire to the rumored event is another ResetEra user, who claimed that Sony is planning its own Summer Showcase.

According to the user, the event would feature a new "God of War" trailer. This claim, however, is believed to have been based on old information and it is possible that Sony has already changed its plans since then.

"Sony is 100% having some kind of event or presentation in the Summer,” the Resetera user said a few weeks ago. "I know for a fact they are working on the GoW trailer for it. Likely June I believe," they added.

Other video game publishers and developers have showcases and events at this year's E3, but Sony is absent this year. The company used to participate in E3 a few years back but has since spurned the conference because it holds its own presentations at much later dates.

As for the rumored PlayStation Summer event, fans should temper their expectations and take these details with skepticism.
