Multiple shootings in less than four hours in Chicago on Thursday evening have resulted in the death of one, and injured 17 people, police officials told the Chicago Tribune.

Twelve people, including a 3-year-old boy, were shot at Cornell Square Park, in the city's Back of the Yards neighborhood Thursday night, the Tribune reported, citing authorities. Three of the victims, including the child, were transported to local hospitals and were reported to be in serious-to-critical condition, according to the Fire Department, while four were in fair-to-serious condition and four others were in good-to-fair condition. According to several media reports, the attack is said to have taken place a little after 10 p.m.

Earlier, a 36-year-old man suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body after he was shot near the 77th Street and Sangamon Avenue, which is about 4.5 miles south of Cornell Square Park, at about 6:56 p.m., Daniel O’Brien, Chicago Police News Affairs Officer, told the Tribune. Although the man was immediately rushed to the John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital, he later succumbed to his injuries.

In another incident, which took place at about 6.35 p.m. in the 700 block of West 72nd Street in the Englewood neighborhood, a teenage boy was shot in the foot. He was unable to give much information about the incident, but was reportedly in good condition at the Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

In yet another shooting, which occurred at about 6:52 p.m. in the 3800 block of West 57th Place in the West Elsdon neighborhood, two men in their 20s were shot, O’Brien told the Tribune, adding that one was shot in the stomach while the other suffered a graze wound to the thigh. Both the victims were in stable condition at Christ Medical Center.

According to the Chicago Tribune, another shooting occurred just after 7:15 p.m., and the victim was a 28-year-old man who was shot in the stomach in the 5700 block of South Aberdeen Street in the Englewood neighborhood.

The last shooting was reported at about 10:31 p.m., where the attacker came up to a 21-year-old man and shot him in both legs in the 5500 block of West North Avenue in the Austin neigborhood. Ronald Gaines, Chicago Police News Affairs Officer, told Chicago Tribune that the attacker fled north on Luna Avenue soon after the shooting.
