“Vampire Diaries” star Candice King has a few words for people who scoff at mothers with children on airplanes. The American actress took to Instagram to encourage people to be “nicer” to moms who travel alone with their kids instead of giving them “snarky comments.”

King also encouraged people to lend a hand to moms instead. The Houston native added that if helping a mom is too much for onlookers, she’d appreciate if they would at least be understanding of the situation.

King, who plays Caroline in the hit CW series based on the novels by L.J. Smith, gave birth to her and husband Joe King's daughter, Florence May, in January. Despite the struggles, the 29-year-old has been enjoying motherhood. King described her experience as a mother in an Instagram post, saying she’s thankful that she is a mother not only to her child but also to her husband’s children to a previous relationship. She added that the experience has altered her perspective on life and that she has learned a lot from being a mother.

King is not the only one who has come in defense of moms who get judged because of their parenting decisions. Several celebrities have spoken out about society's fear and disgust over breastfeeding moms. Alyssa Milano, who has two children, is a firm advocate for breastfeeding in public.

In an interview with Us Weekly, Milano defended her decision to breastfeed in public and share photos of herself breastfeeding. She also said that providing nourishment for her children and bonding with them through breastfeeding gives her one of the “greatest joys of [her] life.” Milano added that she’s happy that her photos were able to start a discussion about breastfeeding and that she hopes people will stop looking at mothers who breastfeed their children in public differently.

Meanwhile, aside from her Instagram posts, fans of King can also catch her on “Vampire Diaries” Season 8, which will premiere Oct. 21.
