Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk satiated the curiosity of his social media following this week after posting a video of a SpaceX Hyperloop pusher pod traveling through a test tunnel at high speed. The video shared on Instagram showed the pod breaking its own speed record after traveling 355km/h (220mph). Musk shared that he hopes the technology will reach speeds of over 500 km/h (over 310 mph) by next month.

“We took the SpaceX/Tesla Hyperloop pusher pod for a spin by itself a few days ago to see what it could do when not pushing student pods (some need a push to get going, e.g. passive maglev),” Musk wrote Wednesday. “Got up to 355 km/h (220 mph) before things started [fire emoji]. Kind of like racing with a tugboat. Maybe able get past 500 km/h (about half speed of sound) next month with a few tweaks or maybe tiny pieces.”

Musk pioneered the high-speed tube travel in a paper he released in 2013 as a “fifth mode” of transport that could outpace planes, trains, cars and boats.

Just days prior to sharing the above video, Musk posted a video of a separate prototype that reached speeds of 324 km/h (over 200 mph) during part two of SpaceX’s Hyperloop Pod Competition. The winning team was from the Technical University of Munich called Wissenschaftliche Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Raketentechnik und Raumfahrt (WARR).

“Congratulations to WARR team from Tech Univ Munich for winning 2nd @Hyperloop competition! Peak speed of 324 km/h, which is over 200 mph!” Musk tweeted Wednesday. On Thursday, Musk shared video of the hyperloop pod in action.

As if one remarkable video weren’t enough, Musk has also promised his Twitter followers a forthcoming reel of SpaceX landing bloopers.

“Putting together SpaceX rocket landing blooper reel,” the tech magnate tweeted Thursday to his 12 million followers. “We messed up a lot before it finally worked, but there's some epic explosion footage.”

Musk did not specify when the blooper reel would be released. However based on his track record of making good on his teaser promises, fans can probably expect to see it relatively soon.
