Who Is Allyson Thompson? Navy Nurse’s Disturbing Photos Of Newborn Treatment Go Viral
A Jacksonville, Florida, Navy nurse came under fire Monday after she was accused of posting offensive pictures with newborns. Allyson Jeanette Thompson was called out after she supposedly shared the disturbing pictures to her Snapchat account. One of her followers took screenshots of the images, posted them to Facebook, and then got in contact with the Naval Hospital Jacksonville.
Denisa Shelito was shocked when she saw the pictures, which was first shared by a mutual friend. The original post, which garnered more than 250,000 shares by Tuesday, read:
“A girl I went to high school with is a navy nurse and this is how her and her shitty friend treat the babies that have just been born. My blood is literally boiling and I want to snitch bc that is someone's child. The first pic is her friend who is making the baby dance and she's playing rap music in the background. I'm LIVID and I'm snitching bc she should get fired from her job but idk how to go about it. Pissed isn't even the words.”
Shelito wanted the Navy nurse to lose her position. “I'm just sharing someone's post in hopes that these childish girls get reprimanded and lose their jobs,” she wrote.
The viral post showed the nurse posing with a baby, apparently making the child dance. Another showed the nurse giving a baby the middle finger. It had a caption that read, “How I currently feel about these mini Satans.”
Shelito was scared for the babies’ health. “Also who knows how many babies could get shaken baby syndrome because of them,” she wrote in the comment section. “The OP's mom already called Naval and other people are reporting them too. I can't wait to hear what happens...I pray they don't ever work at a hospital again.”
Thompson is reportedly being punished. “After me and my mom tried getting someone on the phone for like an hour, she finally got someone who was over her and it's been reported.. all screenshots and video was sent to her phone via text and she has talked to her CO and they're taking the next steps of investigating it and she is being punished,” Shelito wrote on Facebook.
Jeanne Casey, the Public Affairs Officer at Naval Hospital Jacksonville, released a statement after the pictures went viral. “We are aware of a video/ photo posted online. It’s outrageous, unacceptable, incredibly unprofessional, and cannot be tolerated. We have identified the staff members involved. They have been removed from patient care and they will be handled by the legal system and military justice. We’re in the process of notifying the patient’s parents,” the rep said.
Another navy nurse, Joanie Barrett, reportedly participated in the incidents, USMC Life reported Tuesday.
Several nurses were removed from the Naval Hospital Jacksonville after pictures of them posing with newborns and making them dance to rap music went viral Monday, BET reported the following day. Some called for their licenses to be revoked. “They need to have their nursing license revoked. I am totally disgusted. How juvenile. Grow up,” Jane Agerton, a nurse from Tennessee, said in the comment section.
Nurses posting pictures of babies to social media is a violation of HIPPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) laws.
