Who Is Audrey Middleton? 5 Facts About The First Transgender Contestant To Appear On 'Big Brother'
Audrey Middleton will be the first transgender contestant to appear on CBS reality show “Big Brother,” which will kick off its 17th season on June 24 and June 25 in a two-episode premiere at 8 p.m. EDT. Middleton, who was born Adam, plans to use the show as a platform to spread awareness for the transgender community.
Middleton grew up in a small town in Georgia and swam competitively growing up. She transitioned several years ago and faced many difficulties dealing with her family's acceptance, according to TMZ. Now, the site claims she's extremely close with her parents and was inspired by Caitlyn's Jenner public transition. Here are five more interesting things you need to know about Middleton:
1. Her interests are diverse.
“I have some nerdy hobbies,” the 25-year-old told CBS in her biography. “One being I have taken a huge interest in astrology. I love to talk to my friends about the things that I've learned and drawing their charts for them.” The Villa Rica, Georgia-born digital media consultant also loves “playing competitive strategic games” and reading “philosophical content.” Middleton also enjoys spending time outdoors and goes camping, hiking, rock climbing kayaking and swimming as often as she can.
2. She loves music and food.
“Witnessing art in its purest, most raw musical form is a magical experience for me. I deeply envy those people with great musical talents, but appreciate them so much,” Middleton said. “I also am a bit of a foodie. I love finding new cool places to eat and enhancing my palette as often as my wallet will afford!”
3. She’s a fan of “Big Brother.”
“My favorite houseguest of all time is Rachel,” Middleton said. “She's beautiful, hilarious (even when it's not on purpose), and most importantly truly understands how to play this game. She won, so she's not completely underestimated, but I don't think people salute her enough for how intelligent she actually is underneath the ‘looney toon’ image she might project.”
4. She considers herself a leader.
“Throw me to wolves and I'll come back leading the pack!” the contestant said.
5. She keeps a journal.
“I would take my journal, because I like to write down affirmations and really endearing quotes to keep things in perspective for me,” Middleton said when asked which belongings she planned to take into the house. “I would bring my favorite astrology book because it makes for a great conversation piece and I would love to see who readily admits that they identify within it. It's not for everyone, but I would say 8 out of 10 people entertain the idea just for fun.”
