Prominent Houston lawyer and top Democratic donor Steve Mostyn died Wednesday at the age of 46. The prominent lawyer died suddenly after battling mental health problems, his wife Amber Mostyn said, according to the Texas Tribune.

Mostyn’s cause of death was not released.

After graduating from South Texas College of Law in 1996, Mostyn went on to found his own law firm, Mostyn Law. A Texas native, Mostyn made a name for himself in corporate negligence and wrongdoing, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Mostyn was also known for his donations to the Democratic Party. He gave more than $2.3 million in 2014 to Democratic candidates, while he donated more than $24 million to political causes since 2000. Mostyn also gave a Hillary Clinton super PAC $1 million during her 2016 campaign for president, KWTX reported. The Texas Democratic Party remembered Mostyn on Twitter Thursday as "the epitome of a Texas Democrat: Big, bold, fearless and caring."

Mostyn's wife, Amber, announced his death in a statement Thursday.

“Steve was a beloved husband and devoted father who adored his children and never missed any of their sporting activities,” his wife said. “He was a true friend and a faithful fighter for those who did not have a voice.”

His wife also touched upon mental health in her statement.

“If you or a loved one are thinking about suicide, or experiencing a health crisis, call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline,” she wrote.

Mostyn was survived by his wife, Amber, his daughter, Ava, his son, Mitch and his nephew, Skyler Anderson.
