Dead of Summer
“Dead Of Summer” aired its Season 1 finale on Tuesday, Aug. 30. Will Freeform renew the horror series? Freeform/Tyler Shields

“Dead Of Summer” wrapped up its first season on Tuesday by adding two more camp counselors to its body count. The Season 1 finale ended with Amy Hughes/Malphas chasing down Jessie Tyler since she had a piece of Holyoke’s soul. If she killed him, she would finally be free and leave Camp Stillwater for good.

Fortunately, with a lot of help from Detective Garrett Sykes (Alberto Frezza), Blair (Mark Indelicato) and Drew (Zelda Williams), Jessie (Paulina Singer) was able to vanquish the demon and kill Amy (Elizabeth Lail). So, will “Dead Of Summer” be renewed for a second season?

The Freeform series’ executive producers Adam Horowitz, Eddy Kitsis and Ian Goldberg spoke to TVLine about their plans for Season 2. Inspired by anthology series “Fargo,” the producers revealed that each season of “Dead Of Summer” would be set in a different time and a different summer at Camp Stillwater.

Therefore, Season 2 would be set in 1970 and would explore Deb’s (Elizabeth Mitchell) journey as a Camp Counselor at Stillwater. In Season 1, “Dead Of Summer” dropped many clues into what might have happened in 1970. For example, Deb suddenly started remembering that similar things happened in 1970 when she was a counselor at the camp after the eclipse took place in a Season 1 episode.

Additionally, Deb had the satanic mask with her even though she wasn’t a part of the cult in 1989. Mitchell’s character clearly had secrets. Entertainment Weekly also confirmed that Season 2 will be set in 1970.

Furthermore, if there is to be a Season 3, the producers also have a plot in mind. After 1970, the Freeform show would be set in 2004 where one of the campers from 1989 would be the camp’s director.

However, “Dead Of Summer” doesn’t have impressive ratings to be renewed. The series premiered to only 628,000 viewers or a 0.23 rating in the 18-49 demographic, TV Series Finale reports. From then one, the numbers kept slipping. The penultimate episode drew only 358,000 viewers or a 0.14 demo rating.
