Xbox One Game 'Scalebound' Cancelled
After a lengthy development cycle, Xbox One and PC title Scalebound has been canceled, Kotaku reports.
In a statement, Microsoft confirmed the game’s cancellation and highlighted the year’s remaining roster of games for the Xbox One this year.
After careful deliberation, Microsoft Studios has come to the decision to end production for “Scalebound.” We’re working hard to deliver an amazing lineup of games to our fans this year, including “Halo Wars 2,” “Crackdown 3,” “State of Decay 2,” “Sea of Thieves” and other great experiences.
Scalebound was initially announced at E3 2014 and was regularly touted as a flagship exclusive game for the console. The third-person role-playing action game, which revolved around fighting enemies alongside a dragon, was developed by PlatinumGames and designer Hideki Kamiya, best known for titles including Devil May Cry and 2003’s Viewtiful Joe. While Scalebound was recently highlighted at this year’s E3 — and even made our list of top anticipated Xbox One games this year — the title had lately run under the radar. Although the game initially had a release date of last year’s holiday season, it was quietly moved to 2017 before its eventual cancellation.
Per a report from Eurogamer, Microsoft and PlatinumGames officially split on the game before the end of 2016. While the game and its four-year development cycle worth of work could potentially be revived elsewhere, it is currently expected to be shuttered for the moment.
