1-Day-Old Baby Found Hanging Inside Hospital Bathroom, Search On For Two Women

A 1-day-old baby girl was found hanging from the toilet window of a hospital Saturday. Police said the newborn was murdered before being hung from the window grill.

The shocking incident was reported in a government hospital in the Indian state of Karnataka, reported The New Indian Express. Police believe two women have been involved in the crime.

Police said a hospital employee found the body of the newborn dangling from a thick thread in the wee hours of Saturday and raised an alarm. Police were alerted after doctors declared the baby dead.

The hospital authorities immediately checked on all the babies born at the hospital Friday.

"However, it soon became clear that all the six babies delivered in the hospital on the said dates were fine and with their mothers. The murdered newborn might have been delivered at home as its umbilical cord was still attached," the medical officer of the hospital told The New Indian Express.

CCTV footage from the hospital premises showed two women with a newborn. One of them was spotted taking the baby inside the toilet and locking it from inside. Investigators have launched a search for the women seen in the video.

The incident has caused an uproar and the district health office has asked the hospital authorities to submit a report. The hospital is a 100-bedded facility with a separate Mother and Child wing that can accommodate 60 patients.

Recently, a 2-year-old girl with her umbilical cord still attached was found in a sugarcane field in India. The newborn had multiple injuries and insect bite marks all over her body. People who lived nearby heard the baby's incessant cries and followed the sound to the sugarcane farm. The baby was rushed to a nearby hospital. She was treated for infection and breathing complications.
