A gunman killed at least one and injured five others in a shooting that took place at a Texas office park on Thursday afternoon, police said.

The assailant, who has not been named, is an employee of the company Kent Moore Cabinets which is located inside the industrial park. He reportedly fled the scene after the incident but was taken into custody later.

At around 3:30 p.m. ET, the police were informed about an active shooter in the area. When the officers arrived at the office park, they found that at least one person had died while five other people had been wounded in the shooting. The injured individuals were immediately rushed to the hospital. A sixth person was also taken to the hospital because of an asthma attack, reported CNN.

Four of the injured people were critical, officials said. A trooper who works with the Texas Department of Public Safety was also shot while pursuing the suspect. His condition remains serious but stable, the department said in a tweet.

The police have not revealed the motive behind the incident.

According to Bryan Police Chief Eric Buske, how long the suspect has been working at the company remains unknown. However, the police have determined that he used a handgun and acted alone.

"The state will assist in any way needed to help prosecute the suspect," Governor Greg Abbott said in a statement. "Cecilia and I are praying for the victims and their families and for the law enforcement officer injured while apprehending the suspect."

Kent Moore officials also released a statement in connection with the incident. "We are devastated by the events today at our Bryan manufacturing facility located on Stone City Drive. Our hearts go out to the families and the loved ones of those affected," they told KBTX.

"We want to thank the many members of our law enforcement teams and other emergency personnel who responded so quickly. We are fully cooperating with law enforcement during the investigation of this horrible crime," the company's officials added.
