A man along with his wife, childless couple, reportedly kidnapped his one-month-old nephew after the infant's aunt, posing as a health worker, visited the family to "vaccinate" the child.

However, the little baby was rescued within 8 hours and the suspects, identified as Subash Sharma and his wife Priyanka, were arrested from a village in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh on Monday, The Times Of India reported.

According to the report, the child's aunt dressed herself as a nurse with her face covered in a mask and visited her in-laws' house Monday afternoon. She managed to convince the infant's grandfather that she had come to vaccinate the child and requested him to bring the child to the car she came in.

Once the child was inside the car, Priyanka asked the man to bring in few things from inside his house. "As soon as he went inside, the woman fled with the baby in the car," Sanjay Sharma, the child's father was cited as saying by the report.

The police traced the car from CCTV footage and contacted the car's driver to get the details. The police then found that it was Subash, the child's father's brother, who had booked the cab.

After they were taken into custody, the couple admitted to the crime, the report said.

During interrogation, Priyanka told the police that she had plotted the kidnapping along with her husband as they were desperate for a child, News 18 reported.

"Within 8 hours, a team recovered the child and even arrested those who kidnapped him. Our team used phone and manual surveillance and CCTV camera," Santosh Kumar Singh, Senior Superintendent of Police, said.

Two months back, a newborn baby in Pakistan was reportedly sold to a childless couple after the infant was falsely declared dead by a midwife.

The police recovered the baby 58 days after the abduction by the midwife. She sold the infant to the couple for $2,000. The parents of the newborn were reportedly told that the baby was stillborn. They got suspicious after the midwife made excuses when they requested to see the child's body. The midwife was arrested and admitted to the crime upon questioning.
