A 1-year-old baby was found alive with three dead bodies inside a motel in North Carolina on Tuesday.

Authorities believe the three adults died of an apparent drug overdose. The incident took place inside a motel room in East Cumberland Street, BNO News reported. A man and two women were found dead, but their identities have not been revealed.

Motel owner Margie Godwin said one of the women who had lived at the motel for the past five years had been a model tenant, and there had been no issues concerning her in the past.

"Her sister called me and wanted me to go down there and check on her," said, according to WRAL News. "That's when we went in and found her dead. They were all dead."

The 1-year-old child was taken to a local hospital and received medical attention, the police said, adding the baby was doing fine.

"[Police] got the baby ... They got the baby and carried her to the hospital. She was shaky, very shaky, that child," Godwin recalled, adding Dunn police spent hours in the room investigating the incident.

The police are currently awaiting test results, including a toxicology test, to determine the cause of death. The relationship between the three adults and the baby remains unclear.

This is a developing story.
