1-Year-Old Boy Killed By Father Who Wished For A Daughter, Accused Arrested
A 1-year-old boy in India was killed by his father who wished to have a baby daughter.
The incident took place Tuesday in the city of Nagpur in the state of Maharashtra. On the day of the tragedy, the accused had fought with his wife when she refused to give him money to consume alcohol, the Hitavada reported.
The man, identified as 40-year-old Bhajan Kawreti, got angry, and in a fit of rage picked up his son and smashed him on the ground. The baby suffered serious injuries after hitting his head on the floor of the courtyard, and was bleeding. However, the father did not call for help or give any medical treatment to the child, the media outlet reported.
Local media reports said the father was planning to dispose of the baby's body, but the police arrived at the scene. The child's body was sent for an autopsy, and the accused was taken into custody, the police said, The Times of India reported. The accused was booked under Section 302 of Indian Penal Code.
Kawreti got married to Mathura in 2016, and the couple had their first child, a son, in 2017. Last year, they had another boy, which made Kawreti unhappy as he was expecting a daughter. This was one of the major reasons why the couple frequently had fights.
This is not the first time a child has bore the brunt of his parents' arguments. A 10-year-old boy in Madhya Pradesh was killed by his father for intervening in a fight between the latter and his wife. The accused was identified as Shaukeen Adivasi. The police said the father was quarrelling with his wife and beating her up when their son intervened. Adivasi got furious and banged the child's head against the wall, who died on the spot. The accused fled the scene, forcing the police to launch a search for him. Authorities said that there were frequent fights between the accused and his wife as he suspected his partner of cheating on him. However, neighbors said Adivasi himself was living with some other woman in a separate house.
