A Racine, Wisconsin, woman was charged after her 10-month-old son tested positive for cocaine. Jamilynn M. Devoe, 20, and her boyfriend, Antonio R. Medina, 22, are both facing felony neglect of a child under the age of six and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police told local media Wednesday that they found drugs in the bedroom the couple shared with the child. Devoe has also been charged with obstructing an officer. According to the criminal complaint, the incident came to light when the toddler was taken to an emergency room on April 10.

The child was later transported to Children’s Hospital in Wauwatosa. Doctors said the child suffered bruising to his right temple as well as a swollen and bruised upper lip. The infant’s blood also testified positive for cocaine.

During a search of the woman's home, officers found a glass pipe typically used to smoke marijuana in the closet.

An investigator and a Department of Human Services worker questioned Devoe, who initially denied consuming controlled substances but later admitted to using marijuana. She told the DHS worker that she and Medina use cocaine off a mirror on the TV stand in their bedroom.

When the Racine Police Department searched her home again in May, they found a powder which later tested positive as cocaine.

On Wednesday, Medina was assigned a $3,000 signature bond, online court records show. A preliminary hearing was set for July 17 at the Law Enforcement Center, 717 Wisconsin Ave. Devoe is yet to appear in court, local media reports said.
