10-Year-Old Child Dies After Being Mauled By Dog, Canine Shot Dead

A 10-year-old boy in the United Kingdom died after being mauled by a dog, which was later shot dead by armed officers at the scene.

The incident occurred Monday evening near Caerphilly in Wales. Paramedics and armed police were called to an address in Penyrheol regarding reports of a dog attack.

“Officers attended, including specially-trained firearms officers, alongside paramedics from the Welsh Ambulance Service who confirmed that a 10-year-old boy had died at the scene," a spokesperson for Gwent Police said, according iNews UK reported. “The dog was destroyed by firearms officers and no other animals were involved in the attack.”

"Officers will be making further enquiries at this time and will remain at the scene as the investigation progresses... It is possible that you may see ongoing police activity in Caerphilly as part of this work," Chief Superintendent Mark Hobrough reportedly said.

"You may have also seen an increased presence earlier today while officers were attending the incident, but please do not be alarmed... If you have concerns or information then please do stop and talk with us," he added.

Forensics officers arrived at the scene, and several houses were cordoned off as the police continued their investigation, Manchester Evening News. The breed of the dog was not known.

In September, a 4-year-old boy was mauled to death by a pet dog during his visit to his grandmother's house. The deadly attack took place in Tacarigua, a town in the East-West Corridor of Trinidad and Tobago. The child, identified as Amaziah Lewis, was at his grandmom's home when a pet rottweiler viciously mauled him. On the day of the incident, the grandmother told the children to stay inside the house while she cleaned the yard. His elder sister and another child were also there with him at the time. The boy was bleeding profusely when officers arrived at the home. He died before an ambulance arrived.
