A 10-year-old girl managed to escape an attempted abduction in New York City's Staten Island, officials said Sunday.

The girl was walking to a deli in Mariners Habor in the afternoon when a 20-year-old man in an ice cream truck stopped her and tried to talk to her near Harbor Road and Forest Avenue.

Moments later, he grabbed her by the wrist and forced her into the ice cream truck, according to the police.

The preliminary investigation further revealed the girl was able to escape from the truck after about a mile, near Union Avenue and Richmond Terrace. As soon as she broke free, the child used a passerby's cellphone to call her mother around 4:40 p.m. late afternoon.

The mother then called 911 to report her daughter's attempted abduction. The girl suffered minor scratches in the incident, CBS News reported.

Upon receiving the 911 call, the police started patrolling the area and located the ice cream truck and its driver near Amity Place and Forest Avenue. He was taken into custody and questioned.

No charges have been filed against the unidentified driver.

The girl did not know the driver, cops said. She was safely returned home with her mother. No further information has been released by the officials.

Both, the mother and the daughter are cooperating with the investigators who are looking into the terrifying incident.

In a similar incident that was reported in late August, a 6-year-old girl in Ohio foiled a kidnapping attempt by a 33-year-old man right outside her residence. The little girl, identified as Ken'Adi Nash, told the officials that the accused, Deric McPherson, walked by her when she was outside her home taking out the trash and that tried to touch her. He is said to have grabbed her hand and pulled her in an attempt to kidnap the child. However, she screamed loudly, forcing the man to let her go. The entire incident, which took less than 10 seconds to unfold, was captured in the doorbell camera installed at her residence.
