10-Year-Old Shoots 12-Year-Old Neighbor In Head Following Argument, Leaves Victim Paralyzed
A 12-year-old boy in India is paralyzed after a 10-year-old neighbor shot him in the head with an airgun following an argument, the police said Sunday.
A police complaint, filed Sunday, stated that the incident took place in Hardoi, a city in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh, on July 21, Times Now News reported.
Abhay Dwivedi, the father of the victim, said in the complaint that his son was shot in the head by a 10-year-old neighbor while the 12-year-old was playing on the terrace of his residence.
"His son was playing on the terrace when the son of his neighbour came on his terrace and an argument ensued between the two children on July 21. Later, the accused picked up his father's airgun and shot his son in the head," Dwivedi said in the complaint, Times Now News reported.
Upon hearing the gunshot, Dwivedi rushed to the terrace and found his son lying in a pool of blood with a gunshot wound to the head. He rushed him to a local hospital for treatment. Looking at his condition, the doctors referred him to a bigger hospital in the city.
The victim underwent emergency surgery and was placed on a ventilator for four days. He has suffered paralysis on the left side of the body and is completely bedridden.
"Doctors are not able to make a clear prediction about his recovery. The bullet hit him on his head which not only left him paralyzed but has also affected his mental stability," the victim’s father told the Times of India.
The police confirmed the incident and said a case has been filed against the 10-year-old for grievously hurting a person by doing a negligent act and endangering the life of a person. The incident took place a day before the victim’s birthday.
"My son is a bright student and has participated in robotics competition recently. Along with technical abilities, he also has soft and creative skills. He represented his school in a movie-making competition," Dwivedi said to the Times of India.
The reason behind the argument that led to the shooting was not known.
