An eleven-year-old boy fatally shot his teacher and himself under the influence of a violent video game. The incident took place at a school in northeast Mexico on Friday.

According to reports, the boy, identified as José Ángel Ramos, went to the washroom after seeking his teacher’s permission Friday morning. Worried that Ramos was taking too much in the washroom, the teacher, identified as María Medina, went looking for the boy. Suddenly, she found him in the middle of a hallway holding two guns. Ramos fatally shot the 60-year-old teacher. He then shot and wounded five other students and a teacher before killing himself.

The investigators noticed that the boy was wearing a t-shirt with “Natural Selection” printed on it. Natural Selection is the name of a violent video game.

Confirming the same, Miguel Ángel Riquelme, governor of the state of Coahuila, said the boy was influenced by the game and may have tried to “recreate” it. He added that prior to the shooting, the boy had “warned some classmates by telling them: today is the day.” Investigation into the incident was ongoing and all the injured were listed stable.
