An 11-year-old girl has reportedly ended her life after a trivial fight with her sibling over watching television, sources said.

The child whose identity has not been revealed was found hanging Monday from a window grill inside a locked room of her house in Idukki, a district in the southern Indian state of Kerala, India Today reported.

The minor girl was watching television along with her sister and a cousin when her parents went out Monday. The three children entered into an argument over watching television after which the 11-year-old locked herself in a room. The child was later found hanging when her grandmother opened the door.

Based on a preliminary investigation, the police have concluded that the child died by suicide and the argument between the children probably prompted her to take the extreme step.

The police have registered a case of unnatural death and the body has been sent for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of the child's death.

"The postmortem will be held on Tuesday. We have registered a case of unnatural death," a police investigator told the news outlet The Times of India.

According to the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, suicide is the second leading cause of death for children, adolescents and young adults aged 15 to 24. Researches have shown that suicides among children are often impulsive and triggered by feelings of sadness, confusion, anger or problems with attention and hyperactivity.

Earlier this month, a 13-year-old boy from the same state took his life after a fight with his siblings over a mobile phone. The boy, identified as Adithyan, hung himself after an argument with his siblings over a mobile phone that was gifted to them by their parents to attend online classes. Adithyan wanted to play games on the phone but his siblings refused to give it to him. The boy got upset over this and locked himself in a room where he was found hanging from the grill.
