This year's White House Correspondents' Dinner certainly struck a more somber note than in years past, but comedian Hasan Minhaj lightened the mood when he took the stage. No one was spared from The Daily Show correspondent's barbs: both present journalists and the conspicuously absent president were hit by some of Minhaj's jokes.

Below are some of Minhaj's best and funniest lines from the evening.

1. "Welcome to the series finale of the White House Correspondents' Dinner."

2. "This administration loves deleting history faster than Anthony Weiner when he hears footsteps."

3. "We have to address the elephant that's not in the room. The leader of the country is not here. And that's because he lives in Moscow."

4. "[Trump] tweets at 3 a.m. sober. Who tweets at 3 a.m. sober? Donald Trump does, because it's 10 a.m. in Russia. Those are business hours."

5. "The news coming out of the White House is so stressful, I've been watching House of Cards just to relax."

6. "Has anyone seen Rick Perry since he became energy secretary? I have a feeling he's sitting in a room full of plutonium waiting to become spiderman."

7. "Frederick Douglass isn't here. And that's because he's dead. Someone please tell the president."

8. "You guys are [Trump's] public enemy number one. It's journalists, then ISIS, then normal length ties."

9. "I had a lot more MSNBC jokes, but I don't wanna just ramble on because then I might get a show on MSNBC."

10. "Every time I watch CNN it feels like you're assigning me homework. 'Is Trump a Russian spy? I don't know. Tweet us @AC360.'"

11. "In the age of Trump, you guys have to be more perfect than ever. Because you are how the president gets his news. You guys can't make any mistakes, because when one of you messes up, he blames your entire group. And now you know what it feels like to be a minority."

12. "It's 11 p.m. In about four hours Donald Trump will be tweeting about how Nicki Minaj bombed at this event."
