A 12-year-old girl in Logansport, Indiana, was allegedly beaten and tortured by two other girls of the same age during a sleepover last week.

The two 12-year-old girls were arrested, and one of them has been charged in connection to the alleged violent assault on the victim, Fox 59 reported. Due to their ages, authorities did not disclose the names of the suspects and the victim as well as the details of the alleged incident.

Officers with the Logansport Police Department (LPD) received a call from dispatch on Feb. 26 regarding a child who had been "battered."

LPD Sergeant Dan Frye described the case as "sensitive" and "severe" based on what authorities have learned during the initial investigation.

"What the juveniles have been arrested for at this point are different charges related to battery, and anything that you could look at that goes along with that," he said.

Frye added, "It's very significant, very severe. It's a little bit heart-wrenching to watch the videos and to hear what has been alleged at this point."

The 12-year-old victim was invited to what she believed was a sleepover with friends on Feb. 25, her family alleged.

Renita Contreras, the victim's aunt, alleged that the victim was "tortured, beaten and confined" during the sleepover.

"Two juvenile females sat on top of her for two hours so she could not breathe, they burned her with cigarette lighters. It goes on and on," Contreras alleged. "She's a little girl. What these juvenile females did to her... is unimaginable."

The victim received cuts to her face with a sharp object and had part of her hair shaved during the overnight stay, her family said.

The incident was allegedly filmed and the video was shared, according to those close to the victim and her family.

"They didn't bully her. They tortured her," Jaimie Tribbett, the victim’s mother, was quoted as saying by Fox 59. "Mentally, physically tortured my daughter and it’s not right."

The Cass County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that one juvenile has been charged in the case and was ordered detained by a circuit court judge. She faced a judge for an initial hearing Tuesday.

The suspect is charged with two level 5 felonies, intimidation with a deadly weapon and battery resulting in serious bodily injury, and one level 3 felony, criminal confinement resulting in serious bodily injury.

It is not clear if the second suspect will be charged.

Logansport police said the investigation into the case is ongoing.

The victim is recovering from her physical injuries, but her mother said that she has a long road ahead in terms of healing.

"It hurts bad because now she has to for the rest of her life look over her shoulder or wonder if she can trust this person or that person. It’s absolutely horrible," said Tribbett.
