13-Year-Old Boy Drowns His 9-Year-Old Friend Following An Argument; Body Found
In a shocking incident, a 13-year-old boy drowned his 9-year-old friend after the duo entered into an argument during playing. Police said the victim's body was found in a pond near his house.
Police said the incident happened in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu last week, India Today reported. The accused has been identified as Ajay, a resident of Virudhanagar village.
According to local media reports, the accused and the victim had been friends and neighbors for a long time. They used to play together. However, a day before the incident, the duo entered into an argument while playing. Upset over the fight, the younger boy approached his father and complained about Ajay. The man scolded Ajay for his behavior.
Upset over being berated, Ajay approached the 9-year-old the next day in the guise of friendship. Ajay offered to take him to a nearby pond to give him swimming lessons.
Hours later, the victim's parents noticed that he hadn't returned home. After their primary search failed to yield results, the family then approached police. Though Ajay was questioned, he feigned ignorance.
An extensive search was launched following which the body of the child was recovered from the pond. Officers opened an investigation for unnatural death and searched CCTV cameras in the locality.
Police then came across a visual showing the accused and the child walking towards the pond, hours before the latter went missing. Ajay was summoned and questioned, following which he confessed to the crime.
According to Ajay, he was enraged that the boy complained to his father. He wanted to avenge him and hence decided to drown him. The accused was immediately taken into custody and moved to a juvenile detention center, reported Aaj Tak (translation).
A similar incident was reported last month in the Indian capital of Delhi wherein a 15-year-old boy stabbed his friend to death following an altercation. Police said the accused, a grade 10 student, murdered his friend, a grade 11 student, after the latter verbally abused the accused's mother amid a cricket game. Both of them were in school uniform when the murder took place. Though the victim was rushed to a hospital, he could not be saved.
