13-Year-Old Stabs Stepdad For Deciding To End Relationship With His Mother

A man in Zimbabwe has been battling for his life after his 13-year-old stepson stabbed him for ending the relationship with the boy's mother.

The incident took place in the city of Kwekwe on Friday when Absolom Muzanharo returned home from work and told his wife he wanted to end things with her, local police said Sunday. He also demanded all his belongings from his wife as he wanted to move out of the home, New Zimbabwe reported. The woman was identified as Flora Nkomo.

"Circumstances are that the complainant Absolom Muzanharo (45) arrived home from work and demanded his belongings from his wife Flora Nkomo (46) saying he was no longer interested in their relationship," police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said, Zimbabwe Chronicle reported.

An argument ensued between the couple, during which Muzanharo attacked his wife with a stone. However, the woman managed to escape, leaving the man and her 13-year-old son alone at home.

"Nkomo managed to escape leaving the complaint and her son in the house. Muzanharo tried to strike his stepson with a stick and the boy drew a knife and stabbed him once on the chest," the police spokesperson told the publication.

When Nkomo returned home a while later, she found her husband lying on the floor with a knife stuck in his chest. She immediately rushed him to a local hospital. The man was later transferred to a bigger hospital in the city where he was receiving treatment. His exact condition is not known.

The boy was taken into custody Sunday after her mother reported the incident to the police. The charges levied against the teenager were not known.

"We appeal to members of the public to solve disputes amicably and avoid the use of violence. Common sense should always prevail in determining ways of handling disputes," Mahoko told the outlet.

Last year, a 15-year-old teen in Zimbabwe was arrested after he killed his stepfather to protect his mother while the couple was involved in a heated argument at their residence. The boy’s mother had found her husband at another woman’s home. The two then got into an argument, during which the man turned violent. Fearing that his stepfather would harm his mother, the teen hit the victim on the head with an iron rod.
