A 13-year-old boy in London suffered burns across his body after he accidentally sparked a fire by spraying a deodorant too close to a lit candle.

The boy’s mother had stepped out to buy a few things Tuesday night when she received a call from her daughter saying "something exploded." After informing her mother, the 15-year-old immediately called the emergency services to her apartment on the 20th floor. The boy was rushed to a local hospital for treatment and the blaze was quickly brought under control, Evening Standard reported.

The boy's neighbor, 61-year-old Diane Gray, told My London she was the first person to attend to him after the fire.

"I got in from work at about 7.30pm and was sitting down to eat, then I just heard this massive explosion. All I could see was shatters of glass coming past our living room window, so I got up and went to my bedroom because I didn’t know what was going on. I realized it wasn’t ours so I went out to open the front door and all I could hear was the boy going 'ah, ah, ah' and running up and down in their lounge," she told the outlet.

Upon hearing the boy’s voice, the woman ran up to the next floor to find "the little kid was burned from here to here," she said, indicating to a large section of her torso.

Gray then immediately got him into shower as his skin had peeled.

Meanwhile, other residents were told to remain in the building as it was not safe for them to be outside.

Recalling the time she heard the blast, fellow resident Claire Walsh told My London, "It sounded like glass being sent down the chute as always, just something being put in the bin."

"Obviously that was the windows being blown out. Then we heard fire engines, they came and could see them rushing around. Everyone was screaming, kids were out here in pyjamas. People being escorted out, some of us being told to stay in. It was a pretty traumatic night," she said.

The condition of the boy was not known.
