A 14-year-old boy was arrested Friday after he allegedly fatally stabbed his mother and seriously injured his father at their home in Fremont, California.
Officers responded at 12:33 a.m. Friday to a report of a stabbing at a residence near the area of Paseo Padre Parkway and Fremont Boulevard. They found an unconscious woman and a conscious man with multiple stab wounds inside the home, according to a news release from the Fremont Police Department.
Responders attempted trauma care on the woman, but she was pronounced dead at the scene. The man, who had serious injuries, was taken to a hospital, where he has been stabilized, police said.
The man was able to speak to officers, who learned that the suspect was the two victims' 14-year-old son, whose identity will not be made public because he is a juvenile.
After a 30-minute search of the area, a boy "covered in blood" was spotted by a resident approximately a mile away from the scene, according to the press release. Officers rushed to the scene and safely detained him.
Police also did not release the identities of the deceased woman and the injured man to allow for the family to make proper notifications.
Family members of the victims all declined to talk about the couple and their son, KTVU reported. Police are remaining silent on the potential motive as the investigation continues.
"Why this occurred, how this occurred and what actually took place," Fremont Police Sgt. Ricardo Cortes was quoted as saying by the outlet.
The incident was handled with help from the Newark and Union City Police Departments.
"We’d like to thank the Newark and Union City Police Department’s for providing additional support and ask that community members respect the privacy of the family, adjacent neighbors and all who may be affected by this incredibly tragic incident," Fremont police stated in the release.
