14-Year-Old Girl Allegedly Raped Inside Moving Bus While Traveling With Her Family; Suspect Arrested

A teen girl in India was allegedly raped inside a moving bus while she was traveling with her family, police said Tuesday.

The 14-year-old unidentified girl from Shikodabad, a city in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, was allegedly sexually assaulted on a double-decker AC coach private bus Monday while traveling from Delhi to her native.

The police registered a case against two support staff of the bus and arrested one of them after the teen's mother filed a complaint, reported The Times of India.

The victim's mother, who works at a garment factory in Delhi, boarded a bus to go to her hometown, along with her daughter and 18-year-old niece, at around 11 p.m. Monday.

After the bus traveled around 10-15 km, the two staff members, identified by their first names Bablu and Anshu, started misbehaving with the girl and forced her to drink alcohol, the victim's mother said in a police complaint, Hindustan Times reported.

After a while, the bus made a pit stop and the girl's mother got out of the bus to use the washroom. When she got back to the bus, she noticed that her daughter was missing. Very soon, her daughter came out of another cabin complaining that she was raped by Anshu, the girl's mother said in the complaint.

According to the victim's mother, even after alerting other passengers about the incident, the driver did not stop the bus. The woman's relatives who were alerted about the incident eventually stopped the bus at Firozabad, a city in Uttar Pradesh. The accused men had escaped by then.

The victim's mother filed a complaint Tuesday, and the police registered a case against both the suspects. Anshu was arrested on charges of rape while Bablu was booked with molestation charges and is absconding, police said.

In June, a 33-year-old soldier was arrested for attempting to rape an 8-year-old girl in India while she was traveling with her family on a train. The suspect abducted the child while she was asleep and attempted to rape her inside a restroom of the train. When the child resisted, he threw her out of the moving train. The incident came to light after the girl was found injured on the railway track.
