A 15-year-old skateboarder is in critical condition after he was pushed into traffic and hit by a Tesla during a fight in California.

The victim, whose identity has not been released to the public, was riding his skateboard near an intersection of Stetson Avenue and Seven Hills Drive in Hemet at around 2:30 p.m. Monday when he encountered a group of "young people," Miami Herald reported.

A fight ensued between the teen and the group, and they began having a physical altercation. At some point, the victim was pushed off his skateboard and shoved into the road, where he was hit by a Tesla driven by a 52-year-old male, according to KTLA 5 News.

"The Tesla struck the teen resulting in significant injuries," Hemet Police Department said in a press release posted on Facebook. "The driver of the white Tesla immediately stopped at the scene."

The Tesla driver called 911 and reported the incident. Police determined that the driver was not at fault.

"The driver is not suspected of DUI, vehicle speed does not appear to be a factor and the driver is cooperating with investigators," police noted further in the press release.

The teen sustained serious injuries and was transported to the hospital. Though he is in critical condition, he is expected to survive.

Lt. Nathan Miller said it was the group of youngsters who initiated the confrontation with the victim, leading to a "brief altercation," according to NBC LA.

The Tesla driver told cops that the suspects grabbed the teenager's skateboard before fleeing the scene on foot.

Considering the age of the victim, police informed the area high school about the incident. Officers were also able to contact his family, and they are now with him, as per the police department's press release.

Investigators are now urging the public to share any information they may have about the incident or the events leading to it.

Anybody who has a dash-cam video or surveillance footage that may have captured the collision or any group of young people leaving the area around the time the incident took place is also encouraged to come forward.
