$150 Samsung Galaxy S2 vs $100 HTC Vivid: And the Winner is?
Android 4.0 Should Come to Both Devices in a Few Weeks
Two solid AT&T phones have had their prices lowered now that the holidays are over, and the $150 Samsung Galaxy S2 or $100 HTC Vivid are good choices if your contract is up or you're looking to switch carriers. Both devices were $200 before the holidays, so if you were holding out for a better deal, here's your chance. Samsung released the Galaxy S2 about a year ago, so it's due for a replacement this year, but it's still tough to beat, even when compared to the iPhone. HTC released the Vivid at the end of the year, and it was one of AT&T's first 4G LTE phone along with the LG Nitro HD and Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket.
HTC Vivid is a huge phone with a great looking 4.5-inch qHD Super LCD display capable of 960x540p resolution. With the LTE support, this is all you need for all your media consumption needs. It's got 16 gigabytes of internal storage with an expandable memory card slot (expandable up to 32GB), micro-USB port and front and rear-facing cameras. HTC makes solid phones, and the Vivid has a good camera to boot. It's a good choice for $100, but the plastic build and very average battery life are drawbacks.
In fact, even though the Galaxy S2 is $50 more, you're likely to be much happier with it over the Vivid. If you go to the AT&T store to try them out and fall in love with the Vivid's bright display, then you should get it (don't forget your charger....ever) because that is what is important. But, the Galaxy S2 has almost the same screen size as the Vivid, a better battery and more features. If features a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED display with 800x480p resolution. It shoots 1080p video, is super thin (8.5mm) and even has voice recognition. Voice Talk isn't quite as full featured as Siri on the iPhone 4S, but it can send your messages, launch apps and make calls for you. Furthermore, it has AllShare, and it lets you stream content from your phone to any DLNA supported device like Blu-ray player or HDTV. Keep an eye out in late Feb. for a Samsung announcement of the Galaxy S3 at the Mobile World Congress. Tell us in the comments if you are looking for a post-holiday deal or if you're due for an upgrade.
