A 17-year-old remains in critical condition after he was shot by a deputy who arrived at the scene of a domestic dispute on Skipper Road in Tampa, Florida, on Tuesday. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said they later responded to the scene of the deputy-involved shooting.

According to Sheriff Chad Chronister, deputies received two calls of domestic violence at Jasmine Terrace Apartments on Tuesday evening and sent in a response within five minutes. One of the calls said someone was bleeding, while another caller stated a person was bleeding and passed out.

The deputy who arrived at the location identified the teenage suspect as he walked away from the apartment. The suspect was walking along the road near the apartment when the deputy approached him and some type of "encounter" took place between the teenager and the officer.

Sheriff Chronister said that during the "encounter" the deputy used deadly force, NBC-affiliated WFLA-TV reported. The sheriff's office did not find a weapon or firearm the suspect may have had at the scene.

The suspect was rushed to a nearby hospital and was in critical condition, local media reported.

Two women were found hurt in the domestic violence, with one of them having a cut to her head, Chronister said.

Local media named the deputy as Daniel Estanislau, who has been employed with the sheriff's office since October 2015. The 26-year-old received a letter of counseling in April 2017 after being involved in a traffic crash.

The incident led to the closure of Skipper Road, from Nebraska Avenue to 4 Seasons Boulevard. The sheriff's office urged motorists to seek an alternate route "for the foreseeable future."

This is a developing story.
