18-Month-Old Baby Dies After Mother Rolls Over Him In Sleep, Father Blames Wife Of Murder

An 18-month-old baby in India died after his mother rolled over him while sleeping on the same bed.

According to reports, the incident took place in the Amroha district in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh.

The mother claimed the incident was an accident; however, the father of the child accused his wife of murder.

The parents of the toddler had woken up Saturday morning to find the toddler unresponsive, The Times of India reported. The parents immediately rushed the baby boy to a nearby hospital where doctors declared the toddler dead, the police said.

The father of the child, identified as Vishal Kumar (32) alleged that his wife Kajal Devi (30) "deliberately slept on the baby and suffocated him to death." Kumar claimed she took the step as they were going through marital problems.

However, the child's mother denied the claims, saying that the incident was a tragic accident.

"I have no idea for how long I had been on top of the baby, or at what point he stopped breathing," the infant's mother reportedly said.

The father of the child filed a police complaint following the incident. The police launched a probe to determine the baby's cause of death.

The baby's body was sent to a hospital for an autopsy.

"The child that died was the youngest. The incident took place when the child was sleeping between the parents on the same bed. The father has filed a complaint against the mother alleging that she murdered his son. We are investigating the matter thoroughly and a case will be registered if the allegations levelled against her by the father are found true," a senior police officer, identified as Arihant Siddhartha, told The Times of India.

The couple got married eight years ago and had three sons, the police said, according to DNA [Google Translate showed].
