1983 NCAA Star Lorenzo Charles Dies in Bus Crash
Lorenzo Charles, 47, has passed away on June 27, 2011 from a bus crash on Interstate 40 in Raleigh, North Carolina.
He is famous for making the winning dunk for his team North Carolina State University in the 1983 NCAA Tournament championship against the Houston Cougars, which was led by NBA legends Hakeem Olajuwon and Clyde Drexler.
Charles ended his college basketball career two years after the NCAA national title win. He scored in total 1,535 points with a shooting percentage of.575 during his senior year.
In 1985, he was drafted to the Atlanta Hawks and played in the NBA for some years. He later played in the European league in Italy.
