Two men in their 20s were fatally shot and two other individuals were taken into custody after a New Year's altercation at an Illinois bar.

Collinsville police officers responded to a 911 call reporting gunfire at Sloan's Pub House at about 12:45 a.m. Sunday. Upon arrival, cops found Ricardo Correa, 20, from Collinsville, and Rodolfo Torres-Granado, 24, from Granite City unresponsive with gunshot wounds in a parking lot at the rear of 103 W. Main St., KSDK reported.

Though paramedics attempted to save the lives of the injured men, both were pronounced dead by a Madison County coroner shortly after.

Two other males were "encountered," according to a press release by the police department, and taken into custody.

Witnesses told investigators that a physical altercation began inside the bar between a group of men and a single man. While the fight was resolved temporarily, it reignited shortly after in the parking lot of the pub.

"It was reported that a group of individuals, which included Correa and Torres-Granado, exited their vehicles armed with firearms and approached a Dodge Charger occupied by the lone male individual and a female acquaintance," the release said, as per Belleville News-Democrat.

As they approached the Dodge Charger, members of the armed group attempted to break the windows of the vehicle with their firearms. The male occupant of the Charge then fired multiple rounds from his own gun, striking Correa and Torrres-Granado, the release added.

The two people taken into custody included one member of the group and the other shooter from the Charger. Their identities were not released by the authorities and none of them were charged as of Sunday evening. An investigation was launched into what led to the altercation between the two sides.

People with any information about the incident have been asked to contact the Collinsville Police Department's Investigations Commander, Lt. Eric Owen, at 618-344-2131, ext. 5136.

In an unrelated incident that took place in November 2022, a Florida man opened fire at several patrons at a bar after he became angry when he couldn't locate his car keys. While people at the bar managed to tackle the accused and pin him to the ground, he escaped the crowd and fled the scene. The man was identified as Connor Anderson and arrested at a nearby parking lot with a 9mm Glock handgun in his possession.
