Meghan Markle's former "Deal or No Deal" co-stars broke their silence after the Duchess of Sussex said she felt "objectified" during her time on the show.
In a recent episode of her "Archetypes" podcast, Markle revisited her stint as a briefcase model on "Deal or No Deal" more than a decade ago, claiming that the show reduced her to a "bimbo" and "forced" her to be "all looks and little substance."
However, former "Deal or No Deal" model Patricia Kara told Inside Edition that she does not recall ever feeling that way during work, Fox News reported.
"It was unfortunate she felt that way because I never, ever felt that way," Kara said of Markle.
Markle also claimed on her podcast that the game show was "solely about beauty — and not necessarily about brains" and that she and other models would line up before the show for different stations, including one for bra padding, false eyelashes and hair extensions.
But Kara disputed Markle's claim, telling Inside Edition that "there was no bra station."
Another former "Deal or No Deal" model, Donna Feldman, also disagreed with Markle's comments that they were objectified on the popular game show.
"I have read Meghan's comments about being treated like a 'bimbo' while working on 'Deal or No Deal,' but I have to disagree with what is being said," she told Hollywood Life. "During my time on the show, neither myself nor anybody else I worked with was ever treated as such, in my opinion. However, it's important to note that everyone has their own experience, and I can only speak from mine."
The actress also pointed out that "everybody knows what you're signing up for when you're hired as a 'Briefcase Beauty,'" adding that "being hired based off your looks comes with the territory."
Claudia Jordan, who also starred on the show as a briefcase girl alongside Markle, was the first to react to the duchess' statement. Like Kara and Feldman, the "Real Housewives of Atlanta" star insisted that she never felt objectified during her time on the show and even considered her stint a major stepping stone in her 25-year career.
"Yes, getting a modeling gig on a game show isn't necessarily about your intellect, but every show the executive producers picked five models with the most outgoing and fun personalities to place mics on, who they knew would engage with the contestants," Jordan wrote on Instagram Stories after Markle's podcast episode aired.
Jordan also said that it's the "kind of opportunity" that "is what you make it." In her case, it helped her get on several shows, including "Celebrity Apprentice" and "Celebrity Apprentice All-Stars." It also led to her guest-hosting "Extra," appearing in People magazine's 100 Most Beautiful issue and co-hosting the 2009 Miss Universe pageant.
"Not too shabby for a 'bimbo'!" she added.
On her podcast, Markle, who appeared in 34 episodes of "Deal or No Deal" between 2006 and 2007, said she was "grateful" for her job as a briefcase model as it helped pay the bills while she was auditioning for acting roles but noted that there was "little substance" to the role.
"I ended up quitting the show. I was so much more than what was being objectified on the stage. I didn't like feeling forced to be all looks and little substance, and that's how it felt for me at the time being reduced to this specific archetype: the word 'bimbo,'" she said.
"There was a very cookie-cutter idea of precisely what we should look like. It was solely about beauty — and not necessarily about brains," she added.
