2 Men Posing As Cops Allegedly Rape Teen Girl After Confronting Her With Boyfriend
A 17-year-old teen girl in India was allegedly raped by two men after they posed as cops and confronted the victim, while she was taking a stroll with her boyfriend.
The shocking incident happened in Thane, a city in the western state of Maharashtra, on Jan.27. The two suspects, identified as Vishnu Bhandekar, 25, and Ashish Gupta, 32, were arrested for sexually assaulting the unidentified victim and filming the abuse, the police said Sunday, The Free Press Journal reported.
"The victim had gone for a stroll along with her boyfriend when they were stopped by the duo posing as policemen. One of them took the girl to an isolated place close to a creek and near the Thakurli railway station, where he raped her. His partner also sexually assaulted the minor later," Sunil Kurhade, a senior investigating officer, said.
"Since it was a sensitive case, the police formed five teams to probe it. Based on the intelligence and inputs and location details, the two accused were arrested. One of the accused also video-graphed the act and threatened the girl that if she revealed it to anyone he would make the video viral on social media to defame her," the official added.
Bhandekar, who works as a laborer, has at least two offenses registered against him on charges of house trespass and theft, NDTV reported.
According to reports, the suspects now face charges of rape, criminal intimidation, sexual assault of a minor, and charges for filming the sexual assault.
Details about the boyfriend were not released by the authorities.
In a similar incident last week, a minor girl, who ran away from her parents' house, was raped by a man who promised to help her get back home safely. The minor girl reportedly ran away from her home in Jhansi, a city in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, to her grandfather's house after getting upset over her parents scolding her. However, the girl boarded the wrong train and reached a city 150 miles away. She was reportedly assaulted by the suspect, identified as Raj Kapoor Yadav, inside the locked carriage of the standing train, reports said.
