2 Staten Island Public Schools Shut Down After Student Tested Positive For COVID-19

Two Staten Island public schools were forced to close their halls after a student who attends both campuses tested positive for COVID-19.
In a series of tweets by the New York City Public Schools, the New Dorp High School and The Hungerford School will be temporarily closed after it confirmed that one of their students had contacted the virus.
The closure stemmed from “an abundance of caution,” the tweet added.
St. Teresa Catholic School was also closed Thursday after a basketball coach tested positive for COVID-19, said the New York Post.
In a separate article, the outlet likewise reported that a student enrolled at Brooklyn College Academy is also sick with the virus and has prompted the state to suspend classes.
The NYC Public Schools confirmed the case and added that alongside the Brooklyn College Academy, four Brooklyn Occupational Centers will also be closed.
The former's closure came after a “self-reported positive case.”
“The entire campus is closed and will be disinfected,” NYC Public Schools said in their tweet.
Brooklyn College President Michelle J. Anderson wished the student for a full and speedy recovery while at the same time, cautioned all students, visitors and members of the faculty not to come on any of the College's buildings.
The positive student was last seen on campus on March 3, although she was asymptomatic at the time, said the New York Post, citing a statement from the school.
