Chicago, Illinois -- Two women were shot and wounded in Near North Side, Chicago, early Saturday. A suspect is now in police custody, according to authorities.

Chicago police officers rushed to the first block of West Division Street in the Old Town neighborhood when they heard shots being fired at around 3:15 a.m. Saturday and found the two women, Chicago Sun-Times reported, citing police.

The identities of the two women were not disclosed, but they were confirmed to be 29 and 26 years old.

The 29-year-old woman was grazed in the head, while the other was shot in the left leg and buttocks. They were both taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in good condition.

A suspect in the shooting, who was not identified, was arrested by police after a brief chase. Authorities were able to recover a weapon in the pursuit. No charges have been filed as of this writing.

The incident comes weeks after a 14-year-old boy and a 23-year-old man were shot just a mile from where the two women were wounded in a shooting.

On June 4, the unnamed boy was struck in the abdomen and leg, while the man, who was also not identified, was shot in the upper chest in the 1300 block of North Hudson Avenue in Chicago, according to another Chicago Sun-Times report.

Both victims were rushed to Northwestern Memorial Hospital and were listed in fair condition at the time, according to officials.

The man told police that two people were arguing nearby when one began shooting, police said. No one was taken into custody at the time.

Both attacks occurred in the 18th Police District, where shootings are up 82% from last year, according to police data. In the area, crime overall is up 66%, data showed.

Three of the victims were taken to Mount Sinai Medical Center in good condition, while the fourth, a 40-year-old woman, was brought to Norwegian Hospital after she was grazed in the leg.
