2-Year-Old Found Living With 5 Decomposing Bodies For 5 Days Straight; Rescued
A 2-year-old girl in India has been rescued after she was found living with the decomposing bodies of her five family members including an infant.
The toddler from Bengaluru, a city in the southern Indian state of Karnataka, was found unconscious, almost five days after the adult members of her family killed themselves, police said after an initial investigation.
The officers found the bodies of four adults hanging from the ceiling in different rooms of the house while the body of the 9-month-old boy, who is believed to have died of starvation, was found on a bed, reported news outlet Indian Express.
The 2-year-old girl was taken to a hospital where she is undergoing treatment after she fell unconscious due to starvation. The police identified the victims as Bharathi, 51, her children Sinchana, 34, Sindhurani, 31, and Madhusagar, 25, and the unidentified infant of Sinchana.
The incident came to light on Sept. 17 when Barathi's husband H Shankar, who reportedly left the house after a dispute, came home after five days. Shankar, a journalist, told the police that he had disagreements with his daughter who had left her in-laws to stay with them. Since he left the house, he did not attend any calls from his family and came back home to check on them, Shankar told the police, reported news outlet Hindustan Times.
"He [H Shankar] called the police and when they broke open the door, they found out that there were five bodies inside the house and the baby was found alive. The bodies had started decomposing by the time they were found,” Sanjeev Patil, an investigating officer said.
"We have sent all the dead bodies for postmortem and the investigation has started,” Patil added. The investigating officers said they have not determined the exact motive behind the suicides. However, the officers suspect the family dispute could have been the reason behind the tragic deaths.
Last month, a 2-month-old baby boy was found alive days after his mother died in their apartment in Kentucky. The child was found gnawing on his hand, as he lay on top of his mother's decomposing body. The investigators determined that the infant's mother identified as Danielle Wade, 29, died of a drug overdose.
