2013 MTV Movie Awards: Aubrey Plaza Thrown Out Of MTV Awards After Interrupting Will Ferrell
After what happened at the 2013 MTV Movie Awards on Sunday night, Aubrey Plaza should probably take stage-crashing off her to-do list.
The "Parks and Recreation" actress, known for her deadpan comedic style, tried to emulate Kanye West’s infamous interruption of Taylor Swift's acceptance speech at the 2009 Grammys. As “Anchorman” star Ferrell was accepting his award for Comedic Genius, a barefoot Plaza strolled toward the mic holding a drink in one hand and attempted to grab the award from Ferrell with the other. On her chest, Plaza had written the words “The To Do List,” the title of her upcoming film.
Ferrell managed to get out the words “Once again, thanks to MTV,” before Plaza lunged at him, but the comedian kept an iron grip on the statue. After a long pause, Ferrell asked, “What’s happening? Are you OK?” “Yup,” Plaza answered, before turning away and returning to her seat in the front row. As she sat down, Plaza dumped the contents of her drink onto the floor.
"Aubrey Plaza, everyone. Just like we rehearsed it," Ferrell said to the audience, prompting Plaza to grimace and shake her head. "Perfect, it was perfect. Not too long, not too short. Right on the money."
According to MTV News, the unplanned interaction apparently displeased producers, who reportedly asked the actress to leave the awards ceremony shortly after the incident.
Plaza seemed unfazed, judging from her tweet after the awards event: “thanks for the advice @kanyewest went better than planned! #mtvmovieawards #chrisbosh #thesecret”
The incident wasn’t Plaza’s only awkward moment in the past week. Last Monday on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” she entered the stage to music and mimed rowing her way to her chair. When DeGeneres asked if Plaza was comfortable, she admitted she was freezing. “We should have Ellen blankets out here, or, like, a Snuggie,” DeGeneres said. “What about like an Ellen black hole that I can just suck myself into?” Plaza asked.
“The To Do List” hits theaters August 16.
