2014 Chevy Silverado: Auto Maker Set To Enter Luxury Pickup Truck Market With New 'High Country' [PHOTOS]

General Motors Company's (NYSE: GM) Chevrolet is gearing up to enter the luxury pickup truck market with the introduction of its 2014 Silverado High Country. The model will be Chevy’s latest addition to its portfolio in the premium pickup segment when it joins the LTZ and Z71 models of the Silverado lineup this fall.

While the luxury market is a relatively small niche within fans of pickup trucks, Chevy has long let GMC take the reins with its ever-so-popular Sierra Denali -- that is until now.

On the outside, Chevy’s new Silverado High Country makes quite a flashy statement, from its unique chrome grill with horizontal chrome bars, to 20-inch chrome wheels, chrome body side moldings, chrome door handles and mirrors and even a chrome rear bumper with CornerStep.

Inside, Chevy has installed a Western-themed interior, with authentic saddle brown materials throughout. Features include heated and cooled perforated premium leather front bucket seats with High Country logos on the headrests, Chevrolet MyLink connectivity with an 8-inch touch screen, Bose premium audio and front and rear park assist.

“High Country will be the top model in the Silverado lineup, with a higher level of premium features and materials with a rich, Western themed appearance,” said Maria Rohrer, Silverado marketing director.

The truck has a 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V-8 engine, SAE-certified at 355 horsepower. A new 6.2-liter EcoTec3 V-8 also will be available.

Because of the abundant equipment that comes standard in Chevy’s new offering, there isn’t much in the options department other than the 6.2-liter EcoTec3 V-8, the chrome rear bumper with CornerStep, integrated trailer brake controller, sunroof, navigation and a rear-seat entertainment system. Also available is a High Country Premium Package that includes heated steering wheel, driver alert package, adjustable pedals and integrated trailer brake controller.

Chevy hasn't said yet what the list price will be for the new Silverado High Country, but experts estimate that it will start at around $40,000.
