The winners of 2020 BET Awards have been announced and a lot of records were made during the event. So let us take a look at the artists and the movies that made a huge impact after bagging some awards.
- Beyonce’s daughter Blu Ivy Carter makes history
Beyonce’s eight-year-old daughter Blu Ivy Carter took the world by storm when she shared the BET HER award along with her mother, Saint Jhn, and Wizkid. Ivy Carter’s win in the category made her the “youngest winner” in the history of BET Awards.
The record was previously held by Willow Smith, daughter of Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith. She won the YoungStars Award in 2011 along with her brother Jaden. She was 10 years old at the time.
2. DJ Khaled makes it to the record books
DJ Khaled, who won Video of the Year award for his song “Higher,” which featured Nipsey Hussle and John Legend, became the first collaboration to win the prestigious trophy in the category in the last 8 years. In 2012, Jay-Z and Kanye West’s smash hit “Otis” became the first collab to win the accolade.
3. Michael B. Jordan on the verge of beating Denzel Washington
Michael B. Jordan received the Best Actor award for his impeccable acting skills in the movie “Just Mercy.” His win in the category tied him with legendary actor Denzel Washington. Both actors have now received three BET awards in the Acting field.
The “Fruitvale Station” star won last year’s accolade for “Black Panther” while he was named Best Actor for “Creed” in 2016.
4. “Queen And Slim” takes women empowerment to another level
Melina Matsoukas’ “Queen And Slim” took home the Best Picture award at this year’s virtual ceremony and became only the second movie directed by a female filmmaker to win the coveted trophy. Ava DuVernay’s historical drama film “Selma” was the first movie to win the Best Movie accolade in 2015.
5. Marsai Martin continues her golden run
Marsai Martin, one of the most talented young actors in the world right now, created a record of becoming the third artist to win the YoungStars Award for two consecutive years. Keke Palmer and Yara Shahidi are the other two actors who achieved this feat.
Martin also won 4 trophies at NAACP Image Awards earlier this year. Two of her trophies came for “Black-ish” while the other two for the movie “Little,” including Breakthrough Performance in a Motion Picture.
