2020 iPhone SE vs. Google Pixel 4a: Which Should You Buy?
KEY POINTS
- Apple's new 2020 iPhone SE is here
- Google's upcoming Pixel 4a could still overtake it, a report believes
- Consumers will still be the ones making the choice, however
Apple's newest budget handset, the 2020 iPhone SE, is here and it's likely set to become one of the best-selling phones this year due to its sheer processing speed and the appealing $399 price tag. That said, there are other smartphones that might just steal the limelight away from Cupertino's new device.
Tom's Guide noted that one of these rival handsets could be Google's upcoming Pixel 4a, slated to replace the Pixel 3a in the budget-friendly midrange section. Why should people wait for the Pixel 4a to be released before deciding to buy an affordable handset? Here are a few reasons why:
Google will do its best to overtake the 2020 iPhone SE
Competition exists among rivalling tech giants, and this translates to Google working harder to make the Pixel 4a a potentially better option than the new iPhone SE.
“This game of one-upmanship will continue,” Tom's Guide noted.
The Pixel 4a is a totally new device
While the 2020 iPhone SE could be considered “new,” some of its characteristics could be considered old: the iPhone 8 chassis and bezel sizes, an LCD screen, a rear camera believed to have been taken from the iPhone XR, and so on.
The Pixel 4a, on the other hand, is expected to feature up-to-date specs like a 5.8-inch OLED display, modern colors and designs similar to the Pixel 4 and 4 XL and so on. It might even ship with an 18-Watt USB-PD charger out of the box, which is definitely better than the 5W charger Apple ships with the iPhone SE.
The Pixel 4a might outdo the iPhone SE's camera features
The 2020 iPhone SE's rear camera offers some neat features like Portrait mode and other software enhancements, thanks to the A13 Bionic. These features could be overtaken by the Pixel 4a which might feature Night Sight and other camera features from both the Pixel 3a and the Pixel 4 series.
The Pixel 4a will have a 3.5mm headphone jack
While some might think of this as a non-essential, it's a fact that budget-friendly handsets are designed to appeal to those on a budget. These consumers “likely have less to spend on wireless headphones” like AirPods, AirPods Pro and the like, Tom's Guide noted.
These factors could make the Pixel 4a a better choice compared to the iPhone SE. Nevertheless, the choice to buy one still depends on a user's preference, and whether a consumer has already invested himself in Apple's ecosystem.
