2023 Grammy Nominations: Megan Thee Stallion, Nicki Minaj And Many Others Miss Out
While many big names populated the upcoming Grammy Awards in February, several were left out by the Recording Academy.
Those who were snubbed include "Hot Girl Summer" artist Megan Thee Stallion, who failed to receive nominations for two tracks from her second studio album, "Traumazine." The tracks were "Sweetest Pie" – her collaboration with Dua Lipa and her single "Plan B."
Another rapper, who failed to get the nod from the Recording Academy, was Nicki Minaj, who had earlier questioned the institution's decision to move her hit "Super Freaky Girl" from the rap category into the pop category during the nomination process.
Country Music star Carrie Underwood was also surprisingly not nominated this year, despite the success of her ninth studio album "Denim & Rhinestones," which included the hit "Ghost Story."
Demi Lovato also failed to receive a nomination this year for the Best Rock Song for their track "Skin of My Teeth" from their new album "Holy Fvck." The album itself could also compete for Best Rock Performance or Best Rock Album, according to Insider.
Disney's "Encanto" album and the track "We Don't Talk About Bruno" were nominated in three out of four Music for Visual Media categories in the Grammys, including the Best Song written for Visual Media. However, the popularity of "We Don't Talk About Bruno" did not lead to a nomination in the Record or Song of the Year categories.
Despite the tremendous success of their comeback album and their recent sold-out concerts in the U.S., the girls of BLACKPINK did not score a nomination for their new hit single, "Pink Venom," which landed on the top of Billboard 200 this year.
As for Latin artists, Bad Bunny was nominated for Album of the Year for "Un Verano Sin Ti," but he was conspicuously snubbed from the Latin categories. He made history though, as the first all-Spanish album to be nominated in the Album of the Year category. His fellow Latin singer, Rosalia, who released one of the biggest singles this year "Motomami" also did not score a slot at the Album of the Year category. Instead, her work was relegated to Best Latin Rock or Alternative album and Best Music Film for her TikTok live performance of the song.
The 2023 Grammy Awards will be held at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles in February.
