Alton, Illinois, -- A 22-year-old man in Illinois was arrested on charges of murder after his pregnant ex-girlfriend was found decapitated at her residence last week, police said Monday.

Deundrea Holloway from Litchfield has been accused of savagely murdering his 22-year-old ex-girlfriend Liese Dodd on June 9 at her residence in Alton, Alton Police Chief Marcos Pulido said in a news release posted on their Facebook page.

The incident came to light when Dodd's mother went to check on the victim after she did not hear from her for a few days. Dodd's decapitated body was then found inside the house.

An investigation indicated that Holloway threw the victim's head in a dumpster. He was later taken into custody from Gillespie, Illinois, KSDK reported.

Dodd was reportedly in an on-again-off-again relationship with Holloway for the last two years and was expecting to deliver the child in July, police said.

In addition to the murder charges, Holloway now faces two counts of intentional homicide of an unborn child, dismembering a human body, concealing a homicidal death, and possession of a stolen vehicle.

As the investigation continues, two counts of murder will be combined into one count and two counts of intentional homicide of an unborn child will be combined into one count, reports said.

"Every murder is absolutely terrible. I will never take that away, but what happened to 22-year-old Liese Dodd ... is beyond reprehensible," Pulido said in the video posted on their Facebook page.

"It's abominable. It is completely terrible what happened to her," he added while referring to the suspect as a "monster."

"This daughter, this mother-to-be, and her family were in the planning stages of a baby shower that was supposed to be at the end of June but now instead the family is planning a funeral," Pulido added.

Meanwhile, Madison County State’s Attorney Tom Haine offered his sympathy to the victim's family and said, "The evidence will show that the defendant’s gruesome actions here killed both a young woman and the child she carried. In the eyes of the law, both these killings are equal," News.com.au reported.

Holloway is currently being held at the Alton Police Jail on a $2 million bond.
