Three people are confirmed dead following a shooting during a township meeting in Saylorsburg, Pa., Monday evening.

According to police, a gunman opened fire just a little before 7:30 p.m. EDT at the Ross Township municipal building during the town's monthly meeting, reports NBC Philadelphia.

Two of the victims died at the scene and one died after evacuated in a helicopter, reports The Pocono Record. Three remain in critical condition following the shooting.

Chris Webber of the Pocono Record reported that the shooter used a pistol with a scope, shooting through a wall into the meeting.

According to Webber, the shooter was tackled by local official Bernie Kozen, who then turned the weapon against him. Witnesess said the shooter was conscious and taken out on a stretcher.

State police in Lehighton have confirmed that the gunman was captured but no more details on his condition have been released.
