A mother and father from Saucier, Mississippi have been arrested after their 3-month-old baby was found to have suffered a broken arm, along with over 15 other fractures.
Authorities charged 27-year-old Kelee Patterson and 25-year-old Hunter Patterson with one count each of felony child abuse, local newspaper the Sun Herald reported, citing a statement from the Harrison County Sheriff's Office.
On March 28, child protective services reported to sheriff's investigators that a baby was brought to a hospital with a fractured arm and more than 15 healed or healing fractures throughout the infant's body, police said.
The baby was then taken to USA Medical Center in Mobile, Alabama for further treatment and testing.
According to police, an investigation determined the baby's parents were responsible for the injuries.
Kelee and Hunter turned themselves in to authorities Thursday after investigators obtained warrants on both parents for felony child abuse Wednesday, as reported by WLOX.
Both parents have been booked into the Harrison County Adult Detention Facility on $25,000 bond each set by Judge Melvin Ray, as per the Sun Herald.
The baby has since been released from the hospital and is in the custody of the Department of Human Services.
A similar arrest was made late last month in Melbourne, Florida when hospital staff discovered a baby had suffered multiple head complications and reported the boy's 30-year-old caregiver to police.
Police charged Cristian Cubillos with aggravated child abuse as aggravated assault after he told detectives the young boy hit the back of his head when Cubillos "violently threw" him to the ground on April 27. Cubillos had initially told investigators the baby was taking a nap and hit his head when he rolled over, becoming lethargic and unresponsive afterward.
An examination showed the child had suffered a brain compression, brain hemorrhage and a depressed fracture to the back of his head.
Medical staff said the infant's injuries may cause him to suffer permanent blindness and other neurological issues.
